The processing technology when sorghum and barley are used in feed

There are great differences in the understanding of grain size of sorghum barley. According to the self-batching data of feed mills and farms in Australia, the difference of sorghum barley grinding process is likely to lead to the low production efficiency of pigs. In vitro starch digestion test proved that the larger the grinding size is, the lower the digestibility is, and the grinding size of sorghum or barley should not be greater than 1mm. Other studies have concluded that the ideal particle size for hard and soft sorghum is 300 to 500 microns. But as pigs and chickens age, the ideal particle size increases. Xiaobian believes that the crushing particle size of sorghum barley should be paid attention to the principle of more suitable quenching and tempering, small particle size, large contact surface of feed per unit weight, and more adequate quenching and tempering, so the crushing particle size of sorghum barley feed is not easy to be too large (suggested sieve hole is not more than 1.2mm). It is generally believed that hammer mill can reduce the grinding size better than roller mill. 

Water content in the powder before conditioning is a very important parameter, which has great influence on the quality of feed products, feed processing efficiency, equipment loss, animal absorption of feed nutrients and animal production performance. Sorghum barley needs higher temperature and low humidity steam due to conditioning and tempering, so in order to better conditioning and tempering pelleting, the water content after mixing is particularly important. Xiaobian believes that the water content after mixing should be controlled at about 12-12.5%, because the best pelleting water content is 15%-16.5%. Every 1% increase in water content, the material temperature rises by 11 degrees. Therefore, if the moisture after mixing is too low, the material temperature cannot reach the optimal temperature. When the moisture after mixing is too low, it is recommended to adjust the water solution of liquid mildew inhibitor in the mixer.
